About SkiffMule
In 2012 I received a phone call that would change my life and shape a pretty wild career ahead of me. That call came from a buddy who worked at Hell's Bay Boatworks, letting me know they were looking to hire another sales rep. I was a year out of college (go Noles), working in construction, and this phone call felt like it was out of a dream. The stars aligned (that's a whole other story) and my career selling skiffs took off.
Over the next 4 years I was fortunate enough to have a skiff hooked up to my truck more often than not, tracing every inch of coastline from the Carolinas to Texas, turning clients into great fishing buddies along the way. The job quickly gave me the opportunity to connect with other big brands in the industry where I would find lifelong friendships usually accompanied by long hazy nights at boat shows, fishing tournaments, and a handful of conservation focused events. It truly was all a dream come true.
The one thing that always went hand in hand with the skiffs I was around every day was my truck. I would pick up a new one every couple years, lift it, level it, tires, rims, you name it. It was similar to the customization of a skiff, and another way to express my personal creative style. And I quickly realized I wasn't the only one. So I started a little Instagram page, @skiffmule, to highlight some cool rigs I'd had the honor of towing over the years, and guys started sending in their own to be featured.
After running the page (very minimally) for a few years, I noticed that it consistently got some wild marketing metrics even when I didn't touch it. The topic is relatable to anyone with a skiff, and guys & gals love showing off their rides. So I took the opportunity to build a formal brand around the concept and here we are. A brand that celebrates skiffs and the trucks that tow them, with the tag line of "Pole Slow". A mentality I believe we can all get behind, especially in the craziness of the world today.
I didn't want to follow the typical mold of an apparel company that spends big on seasonal collections and carries inventory they'll never get rid of. Plus I wanted to keep this fun. So the idea is simple; offer limited runs of small batch custom goods that are only available until they're gone. This way you don't have the same cool rope hat as every other skiff guy at the ramp.
To all of you crazy skiff loving folks, thank you for being here and supporting our little brand. We love feedback, suggestions, ideas, etc, so please holler with them anytime!
All my best,
B Hall
